The last one

For the most part I have felt this program has been really worthwhile, both professionally and personally. Obviously as librarians we have to keep up with changing technologies and patrons needs so learning a about "web 2.0" is critical to my success as an information professional. as far as the structure of this course is concerned I think it was pretty good but at imes I felt I was having to rush thru things a bit to keep up and often became frustrated when I didn't quite understand something and found it easier just to move on. However at the very least I know what a blogline is, what technoarti does and how to access library thing etc. I think it would be very useful if we continue to have access to the the web 2.0 progrqam site so we can go back at our leisure and re explore some of the things we liked or didn't quite undreastand the first time. I would find this really valuable as I want to know a lot more but have felt a little pushed for time. Or perhaps a site could be set up which has links to each application and gives a little background on each. Then I would feel a bit more confident in choosing the best one for my or my patrons needs.

Web 2.0 Awards

I actuallly like this site, let alone the content. Its a good fast finder for some of the best sites. My biggest gripe of web 2.0 is that there is so much , pardon the word, crap out there so to have this site really assists with wading thru the chaff. I love the word processing sites and I think these are good for libraries who don't provide these softwares for customers. I think this is a major advantage to the industry.

On line image Generator

I loke the idea of this. Would be good for invitations and cards to friends etc, but I couldn't upload an image as I could not seem to locate any photos. I believe you have have a yahoo account to access and use flickr which I don't have. Could do it from home as I have a million photos there so may have a play at home.

Wikki Sandbox Thing

I don't get this at all. What is the point of having a page full of peoples favorite things? I added my favorite music but found the instructions complicated and as a result I don't have a link to show. Moving on....

web 2.0

To be honest, unless I worked in a library web 2.0 would mean nothing to me. I would probably utilise the things that I want or need and not give a second thought to what i was doing. I would maintain a parental interest in what my kids were up to on the net but thats about all really. But i guess therein lies the beauty of web 2.0. You take from it what you need.
Professionally, its a different story. Because I am studying a grad dip in library studies I am very aware of the need to be constantly updating my skills and knowledge in order to keep up with technology and the needs of our users. Even though most of the web 2.0 holds little interset to me I belive to be a good librarian i have to know about its technologies and be able to use them.

technorati

Technorati seems to be a good way to narrow down the plethora of blogs out there and zone in of those of note. I like that the blogs are "fan rated" - would hate to be the one wit only one fan!

Rollyo

I created a short Library Catalog list. Ones which i use a lot for study. I like this applicatiojn although I would always be wondering what I may miss out on in my searching if I relied on rollyo entirely. But it would be useful for certain things where the searcher is sure they just wish to utilise specific sites.

Library Thing

Here is the link to my catalog. these are some of my favorite books in recent times.....

Audiobooks

I think audiobooks downloaded are great. Particularly as the files are downloaded to Mp3's so there is none of the dragging around CD's or tapes. Lightweight and portable. I think there would be a positive response to this technology in a public library where audiobooks are very popular. Its also a cheaper way to do it becasue the format is a download and there is no hardcopy which can easily become damaged and lost.

PODCASTS

Zzzzzzzzz......

I'm really not into podcasting. Theres too much stuff out there and I really can't be bothered to try and find something that I find appealing. I think I'll leave podcasting to the kids. The download time is slow, even with broadband and theres just too much stuff to wade through to get anything worthwhile. Information Overload.

Having said that though I can see the potential for using podcasts in an educational setting (like the web 2.0 podcastsfor this progam) and they can be a great addition for instructional applications. Like everything web 2.0 related they obviously have a big place in the scheme of things.

On Line Applications and Tools

Think this is great. Is very good for our patrons especially because we don't have word processing facilities as yet. Can direct them to Zoho or google docs and off they go. This could be a fantastic tool for me as I study and often wish to edit my assignments at work or at home but often forget to email as an attachment to my work or home computer. Also is very good for doing a group assigment where each member can have a look and edit a presentation or whatever. Very impressed and will bookmark these sites. Maybe I need del.icio.us after all!!

WIKKIS

I really like wikki's. I always have. I find them interesting and informative and I have to admit I use wikkipedia to find out information on some obscure subjects and techno stuff . I just try to use it wisely and I tell my kids the same thing. I really liked the Pricetown Uni bookclub and have book marked that site (but havent put it in de-lic-ios as I really don't have that many favorites that I can't keep up with them). This type of wikki is the sort of thing that I enjoy. Much more than blogging and face book etc. Probably showing my age.

del.icio.us

Have just signed up on delicious. I think its a really useful tool, especially if you are studying as I am and favourites can get a little long. HOWEVER, I have to say I am starting to get confused with all my user names and passwords I have to remember to use all of these things. I am trying to use the same name and password for everything but I'm still a bit overwhelmed over the amount of registering and validating and flicking from screen to screen I have to do. My tool bar has so many icons on it now all ready to fill me with information I really didn't think I needed in the first place. Overloaded and a little weary at the halfway point I think.

Well, here i am again.....

Still like color!

Not a huge flickr or blogging fan but LOVE RSS newsfeeds. Had a bit of trouble working it all out but thinks its a great way to keep up with the world. Especially cos I never seem to read a newspaper. Which may give you a clue which branch I'm from....if my initials hadn't already :) see I'm hip with the jiggy. I know what :) means!!

Flikr

Flikr is great, especially for photo buffs. I can see why its very popular. I am now experimenting with the blog thing to find out more about its features, but apart from changing fonts and colours I am a bit stuck...

First one!

First blog for me!! Now I'll be able to impress my kids....
